R&D Manager


Our client is a highly respected Mānuka products company. Established in 2011, they are based in sunny Whakatane. Being involved in numerous partnerships across the country and making significant investments in new product pipelines across a diverse range of fields allows our client to be progressive and to bring innovation to customers.


Due to an exponential growth, we are seeking a commercially experienced R&D Manager. Reporting to the CEO, this position will be responsible for leading the R&D strategy, including final product development and process development. As the incumbent, you will act as the internal technical expert on the use, mode of action, efficient extraction and processing for the honey derivatives to achieve the company’s strategy. With a team of 5, you will have a strong but supportive management style, mentoring as required. Principally though, your main responsibilities and duties will be:
  • Lead research providers teams
  • Develop & lead research and development strategies
  • Building bridges with external stakeholders

A role such as this will require a highly organised and methodical individual with proven leadership experience. Critical to your success in this role:

  • PhD in (Food) Science/Technology/Engineering (or similar)
  • Min. 7 years advanced technical experience 
  • Commercial – strategic mindset, and proven prior experience in this 
  • Able to communicate across departmental boundaries
  • Successfully managed innovation pipelines and processes/budgets
  • Resilient and solution-focused
  • Deadline-driven & ability to prioritise
  • A practical approach to problem solving
