Terminal Operator

One of New Zealand’s larger energy storage companies is looking for a full-time and a casual Terminal Operator to assist in the running of the terminal and storage facility based in Lower Hutt.

An overview of the role is to undertake the safe, efficient and effective receipt, storage and load out of a volatile product, ensure the terminal and wharf operations are carried out in a safe, efficient and effective manner, and assist in the ongoing maintenance of the delivery system and storage facilities.

Due to the nature of the product involved, you will ideally need to have worked or will be confident working in an environment where there are hazardous substances, and that health and safety regulations are strictly abided at all times.

Prior experience in terminal operation is not needed for the role, but ideally you will come from a trade/ hands-on background, and have an interest in working with mechanical or electrical equipment/ instruments. While there are times you will be inside on the computers, a large part of the work will be carried out outdoor on their meticulously organised and clean site where full PPE is to be worn.

This role will require a flexible schedule from the individual as weekend and night work is required a few times a month (with plenty of notice). The total hours can be anywhere between 20 to 40 plus a week, depending on your needs. We do have a full-time, permanent position available if you already have a few years of experience and wish to develop your career in this field. Please contact me for further detail.

In summary, we are looking for someone who has:

  • Practical operational experience in any industrial/ engineering/ manufacturing/ trade setting
  • An interest and understanding in general engineering concepts
  • Understanding of health, safety and environmental legislation and regulations
  • Able to work nights and weekends when required
  • Strong English communications skills, both verbal and written
  • Is confident working under any conditions and around hazardous substances

This is a hugely rewarding role for the right personality. It is a valuable opportunity to join one of the largest industries both nationally and internationally. The work itself can be fast paced – the operation of this particular site has picked up considerably and is expected to continuously increase in the foreseeable future.
