Workshop Technician – mechanical and electrical

Our client is a leading manufacturer of industrial and commercial cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, high pressure cleaners/pumps and other hydro cleaners. As a result of company growth, they are looking for a new service technician to join their satellite team in Lower Hutt.

The machines are varied but leaning more on the heavy duty side, with petrol engines, pressure systems/pumps and electronics, so you’ll get the opportunity to work on a number of different faults and use all of the skills you have. The ability to assemble and perform maintenance and repairs across both mechanical and electrical faults will be essential.

Based in a very centrally located workshop, you will be working as part of a small, tight-knit team of honest, down-to-earth and driven individuals. This is a highly autonomous role – while team leading is not expected, the role will suit someone who is keen to organise and run the workshop as their own as the business develops.

To be suitable for this position you will need the following experience:

  • Mechanical and electrical aptitude
  • EST or EAS is a must
  • Mechanical trade or an engineering qualification would be ideal
  • Ability to work with both heavy and light machinery
  • Diagnosing/fault finding skills
  • Familiarity with small engines and displacement pumps would be very useful
  • Welding and fabrication experience would be a bonus
  • Team player
  • Honest, punctual and integral

As there are times you could be the only staff member in the workshop, basic customer service and computer skills are required to deal with walk-in requests and process orders.
