Communications & Electrical Engineer

Our client is a design consultancy who specialise in the power industry. With a full order book and a growing workload, they would like to add another person to their team.
We are looking for a Communications & Electrical Engineer to join them in this Christchurch based position.

The job will involve designing full communications systems for telemetry feeds from remote sites to control rooms and secondary systems, including power supplies, earthing and lightening protection, CCTV security and of course, communications systems. The work will cover generation sites and transmission and distribution systems,
As you will be upgrading and potentially integrating with older equipment, a working knowledge of older RF type systems, as well as being familiar with and interested in new technology, is a must.
 
The person

Our new Communications Engineer will:

  • Hold a degree or better level qualification in an appropriate discipline. (Note, overseas qualifications must be from Washington or Dublin Accord listed institutions)
  • Be able to show at least 5-years design experience
  • Experience should include: Fibre optics, microwave radio, SCADA, Mobile radio, AC and DC power systems, Earthing and lightening protection, LAN & WAN network development, all with Utility/power industry application
  • Be versatile and adaptable
  • Have a strong business acumen
  • Be a relationship builder capable of maintaining good working relationships with clients
  • Be able to show experience in project evaluation, scoping, etc., solution design and feasibility studies, etc.

In general we need a Communications Engineer who has done it all  and can work with both new and older technology to provide solutions to customers requirements.
Some site visits and overseeing commissioning may be required, so the ability to travel occasionally and a full, clean drivers license are also required.
