Industrial Electrician (Machine Building)

The Company
This Auckland based OEM design and manufacture automated material handling systems and industrial automation solutions.

Their customers are across NZ & Australia and primarily in the Dairy and Food & Beverage sectors.

Examples of their customised solutions include automated and robotic product handling, palletizing/de-palletizing, conveying, packing etc. for plant or warehouse applications.

The Role

If you have at least a couple of years’ post apprenticeship experience in Industrial Electrical Installations this job could be for you.

Because of workflow growth (a good sign) another Industrial Electrician is needed to join their electrical team.

In the electrical team you will be guided by an Electrical Supervisor, and work alongside another electrician and two apprentices.

You will build equipment in a factory/workshop and then test it, and strip it down to be sent to a customer site. Then you will go and do the installation on a customer’s site in NZ or Australia.

Travel for installation trips is estimated as typically being 2 to 3 weeks away, 2 to 3 times a year. So, you will need to be flexible to travel.

When travelling for a project typically the company will send 1 electrician and 1 apprentice, and 1 Mechanical Fitter so you will work as part of a team most of the time.

This is a permanent, fulltime, 40-hour week Monday to Friday role. It’s a stable role and the hours are decent.

You will be paid a salary but will also be paid overtime at your base rate for any hours worked over 40 hours so you will be fairly paid for any work you do. You will get a day allowance when away from home to cover food, and travel & accommodation costs are covered, so you’ll be well looked after.

Hours: Most of the workshop staff work either 6:30 am to 3 pm or 7:30am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday.

A couple of potential career growth pathways internally are:

1 Moving up to people and project supervision in the electrical department.
2 Working with their service department and then on into a Controls Engineer role.

Does this sound like you?

  • EWRB Electrician Full Registration + at least 2 years’ experience post apprenticeship
  • Industrial Electrical Installation and testing experience
  • You don’t need to be able to program VSD’s or experience working with safety equipment, but you do need to be familiar with this sort of industrial equipment on the wiring side of things

If you don’t mind a bit of travel and do like building Industrial Machinery and doing installations (rather than electrical maintenance) plus also prefer fairly standard day time hours, then this role could be of interest. Do inquire and talk it over with me.
