Machine Safety Engineer

The Company
Based in the sunny Hawkes Bay, this company is a well-established medium-sized company who do project engineering and service work in the disciplines of Industrial Automation, Mechatronics/Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, and Machine Safety across New Zealand and Australia.

Reason for Hiring: The current machine safety engineer is relocating, and the company is also experiencing growth and demand for machine safety solutions.

The Role

Ideally you will have a technical background in electrical/controls engineering combined with Machine Safety certification and work experience in New Zealand or Australia.
Day to Day:

  • Conducting machine safety assessment audits on client manufacturing sites.
  • Writing reports on audit findings, with an automated system in place to streamline the process.
  • Engaging with clients to discuss audit results, potential remedies, and safety solutions.
  • Involvement in the design, solution, and remediation phases, aiming to implement safety measures.

Geographical Focus: The role will be based in Hastings, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand.
The company is expanding into Australia through multinational partnerships, and the role may involve work in other facilities in NZ and Australia.  
Your Team: You will work with a very experienced Machine Safety Engineer and there are other people in the Company who will likely upskill in machine safety.
Career Progression: There is the potential for advancement for you in leading this area of the Company in time too.
Want more discipline variety? The company is also open to people who want to incorporate machine safety into their role rather than making it their sole focus too. E.g. a role that is part machine safety and part controls engineering or mechanical engineering.

Ideal Candidate Attributes

  • Relevant Engineering qualification i.e. Electrical, Mechatronics, Mechanical, Industrial Automation
  • CMSE or TUV certification and ideally have 5 years’ experience in this area
  • Ideally 10 years’ + overall engineering experience
  • Knowledge of AS/NZS4024, the NZ Health & Safety at Work regulations 2016
  • Electrical & control systems safety knowledge
  • Strong communication ability
  • Technical report writing experience
  • Attention to detail
  • Electrical trade experience would be beneficial but not essential
