Located in the sunny Hawkes Bay, this company is a well-established large manufacturer running a stable and successful operation. The company are known to be hardworking, and a team approach is a must. This company has a focus on sustainability, continuous improvement, and using high tech equipment to achieve efficiency gains. People within the company are valued and developed and I have personally heard good feedback from people I have placed there.
In a Nutshell: We are looking for a Mechanical Reliability Engineer to provide engineering support for maintenance, reliability, and capital works within this manufacturing plant. So, you will identify and action strategic reliability improvements to plant equipment and manufacturing processes, both now and over the long term.
You will be given responsibility for your own area of the plant and will get to know the machinery and processes within this area very well so that you can tune the process and machinery as needed e.g., to meet quality standards. You will become quite specialised in the setup of the machines in your area and will use process tools to analyse and give feedback on possible improvements etc.
Engineering Team: You will join a team of thirteen, and you will be one of four Reliability Engineers in this team. The team is a mixture of ages and engineering disciplines and quite a few are pretty active types of people.
Current Focus: Your core focus is to lead the engineering direction of the current plant including safety and problem solving. You will advise on performance, availability, and reliability of the plant so that good business decisions can be made.
This is a diverse and dynamic role where you will regularly be in touch with a variety of operational and engineering people, keeping your finger on the pulse, and gathering information so that you and your team can make decisions and strategies towards achieving plant reliability and improvement.
Future Focus: There is also a capital works component where you could be responsible for the design, procurement, and implementation of a range of engineering projects.
Project examples could be changing from one type of gearbox to another, subtle design changes, access and safety improvements, changes in materials and specifications, standardising the way operators run the machinery etc. etc.
Duty Roster: This is a “duty rostered” position, so you need to be ok participating in this. Currently this is only 1 week in 8 so as rosters go this is pretty good. When on duty you will advise or organise resources as required and attend to call-outs if needed.
Does this sound like you?
- Manufacturing Plant experience
- Tertiary Engineering qualification, ideally in Mechanical Engineering or similar
- Reliability experience with CMRP certification an advantage
- Relevant Equipment Experience: pressure vessels, safety valves, conveyors, fixed cranes & hoists etc.
- Solid knowledge of engineering standards and procedures
Why do Reliability Engineers like doing this role?
Variety: There is a lot of variety in this job, keeping things interesting.
Engineering Projects: You can work on some interesting reliability, improvement, & capital projects.
On-going Career Development: Every few years you will be moved to another area of the plant too so that your horizons continue to be broadened, your knowledge continues to grow, and you become even more valuable to the business.
Continuous Improvement: The Engineering Manager is very focused on continuous improvement and innovation. He is interested in plant reliability but is also interested in honing you and your engineering abilities too.
Technically Interesting Environment: This role is also unique in terms of the type of plant you will be exposed to. You will work inside a large automated plant where advanced technology is embraced. This sort of environment is quite technically appealing to many engineers.
Remuneration: You work will be well compensated for, with a truly competitive salary, Kiwisaver, insurances, plus a few other benefits which all add up. The company also help out of towners with relocation and temporary accommodation, so don’t let moving stop you from applying.
Location: the Hawkes Bay is a region that continues to grow, and not just grapes, but that too. My 22 degrees mid-winter holiday there certainly made me appreciate this sun-soaked coastal area, with its relaxed vibe, and relatively traffic-less experience.
