National Service Manager

The Company
Industrial Engineering Company who design, build, and service a niche range of custom plant equipment, primarily for large manufacturing site customers. With many of their customers’ plant equipment nearing the end of its life or with strategy and projects in place to move to more sustainable and efficient equipment, the future work flow looks bright and stable here. Being a technical specialist has allowed them to cover both the NZ and Australian market with little competition, and they are well positioned to continue growing their customers on both the project delivery and engineering service and maintenance fronts.

Multiple Locations Considered: Where do you live or want to live? We have a long list of potential locations to choose from for this role: Auckland, Wellington, Hawkes Bay, Waikato, Christchurch, or Dunedin.

The Opportunity
This National Service Manager opportunity has opened up due to retirement.

You will be the ‘top of the tree’ for the Engineering Service Group in this company, report straight to the CEO, and have three Branch Managers reporting to you. There are solid regional teams of multiskilled, trade qualified, service engineers and technicians who do both the project and service work.

What kind of Service? Projects for the Service Group can range from routine part replacement right up to complete equipment overhauls, major installations, and everything in between.

The Service Group have three branches across New Zealand that are stable, have reliable management and trade staff, and a lot of existing service contracts in place.
The time is right for a renewed focus on the business and commercial side of the Service Group, making operational improvements nationally, and ultimately growing the Service Group.
I note that the project side of the company will naturally feed work to the Service Group, so if you can capitalise on this and do some further customer business development you will be well on the road to achieving this growth.

Leadership and management are key in this role.
Internally a major focus for you will be operational management and implementation of the existing quality systems across all of the branches.
Externally you will maintain and develop business with large commercial customers day to day and also strategically into the future.

Travel: You will need to travel to visit the various offices and clients nationally. This will typically be one to two days per week.

Hours: The standard hours are 40 per week. During busy times longer hours will be required, a company estimate for this is three or four times a year and for a week or two at a time.

Does this sound like you?

  • Proven and extensive leadership and management experience in a management role e.g., GM, National Service Manager, Operations Manager, Commercial Manager, Utilities or Site Services Manager…
  • Strong experience and understanding of managing a Service/Maintenance contracting business operations
  • A familiarity with trade staff i.e., Welder / Fitters, Electricians etc.
  • Manufacturing Site Experience: e.g., Petro-Chemical, Food, Dairy, Timber, Pulp & Paper etc.
  • Business Financial Reporting and Accountability at board level
  • A good understanding of Contracts and Contracting
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Business Development, sales, and customer facing experience
  • Estimating experience on technical projects
  • H&S: Understanding of NZ Health & Safety in Employment Act and the Employment Relation Act 2000
  • An effective communicator, both verbally and in writing
