Network Support & Commissioning Engineer

They specialise in medical alarms and nurse call / data systems that go into hospitals and aged care facilities. So your role will help to improve quality of life for people.

What will you be doing?
Network Engineering and Commissioning: You will be responsible for detailed technical designs, commissioning, documentation, and training for various projects in the greater Auckland area, and also North of Auckland at times.

Technical Support:
This is quite a collaborative type of role. You will provide comprehensive technical support to the CTO, Technicians, and External Customers by being the first port of call and escalation point for technicians. So you will communicate with a wide range of people.

Consequently you will need to be quite a flexible person and be able to quickly switch between competing priorities and jump onto what needs doing the most. For example you may get a call to resolve a system going down.

Reporting Structure: You will report straight to the GM and work alongside a Commissioning and Support Engineer who already knows the company systems and sites.

Where will you spend your time? Typically you will spend between 60-70% of your time in the North Shore office and 30-40% of your time on commercial client sites which will include hospitals, and aged care facilities e.g. retirement villages, rest homes, and hospices.

What will you work with?
You will work with wired and wireless products and will work with other external companies like fire technicians to integrate to the fire systems (e.g. a fire alarm panel) and working with IT companies to get things working on their networks. The software this company use can integrate and talk to a very wide range of systems. It is quite broad and varied, and you will quite often find yourself trying to get something working that hasn’t been done before or is a new product. A lot of the functionality is in the communication between different systems e.g. to pagers, mobile phones, wireless pendants, and smoke alarms.

Hours and Package: This is a standard 44 hour per week, permanent, and salaried role with 3% Kiwisaver on top of this salary. You will be offered a company vehicle for business use, plus a phone and laptop.

Overtime and Callouts: Callouts may be remote or require a site visit. This will be paid at time x 1.5, with a minimum of 3 hours paid for callouts when on-call. The on-call roster has about 12 people on it so typically you will only be on-call for 1 week in every 3 months. However if you want to be on-call more and other people don’t mind giving up their roster slots you can earn more this way too.

More about this Company
This company is entering a phase of growth across both New Zealand and Australia with a lot of projects to deliver. There are about 35 people in the Auckland office, there are typically about 10 people in the office at any one time as they have a lot of installers and technicians out and about on customer sites.

NZ & Australian Company: There are other company offices dotted around New Zealand and in Australia. Importantly for you in your new role, each of these offices has their own Network Engineer, so when you start their will be people who know your job and can support you on the Networking front. The company will also train you on their systems too.

Company culture wise it is not a corporate vibe here, but is rather a family type of culture. A place with a good team of people who get on, enjoy spending time together, and have good banter.

Your Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • IT and Network Engineer background e.g. LAN, WAN, VPN’s, IP Addresses, Gateways, DNS’s, Http ports, SMTP Servers
  • Software understanding, getting systems to talk to each other and work together.
  • Communication skills, ability to liaise with staff, contractors, and customers
  • Troubleshooting and Fault-finding Experience
