The Opportunity:
A vacancy exists for a Production Scientist – intermediate to senior – to join Arotec’s established team.  The position is critical in ensuring Arotec maintain their ability to exceed our customer’s expectations. The primary responsibility of this role will be the production of high-quality immunological reagents using recombinant insect cell culture, maintaining quality production output, and continuous process improvement.
 
Key responsibilities will include:

  • Meeting agreed Production Schedule in products manufactured, yield and quality of recombinant products as required to meet customer demand
  • Undertaking production and management of baculovirus stocks
  • Routine management of insect cell culture stocks
  • Undertaking production of recombinant proteins using insect cell culture
  • Undertaking protein extraction and purification from insect cell pellets
  • Assisting in production/purification of proteins from native sources
  • Working with a range of chromatography systems and techniques
  • Performing standard protein biochemistry techniques
  • Making reagents, buffers, stock solutions and maintain inventories
  • Continuous improvement of current processes

You, the Candidate:
Reporting to the Production Lead, you’ll play a key role in the processing of high quality materials for the specialist products Arotec manufactures for their clients across the globe. You will have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biochemistry/Biotechnology or a related field, and have a keen enthusiasm to work in a commercial production laboratory environment.
 
To be considered must possess the following attributes:

  • Bachelor or Master of Biochemistry, Biotechnology or related subjects
  • Experience working in research and production laboratory settings
  • Experience with aseptic technique
  • Experience with insect cell culture and baculovirus production systems
  • Knowledge of protein purification techniques preferred
  • A good understanding of the value and adherence to Quality Management Systems and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
  • Experience in routine laboratory maintenance, maintenance of laboratory safety standards and knowledge of Quality System Reports
  • Good organisation skills, effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work individually in a timely manner and within a team environment
  • Strength in maintaining laboratory records to high standards and good report writing skills
  • Good attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
