Project Manager (Plant Projects)

Project Management of Large Plant & Equipment Capital Projects – High Level Strategy, Analysis, and Stakeholder Engagement – Comprehensive Package + Relocation offered

The Company
Located in the sunny Hawkes Bay, this company is a well-established large manufacturer running a stable and successful operation. The company are known to be hardworking, and a team approach is a must. This company has a focus on sustainability, continuous improvement, and using high tech equipment to achieve efficiency gains. People within the company are valued and developed and I have personally heard good feedback from people I have placed there including people within this team.

Business Improvement Team: This is a new role within a business improvement team. You will work closely with the Business Improvement Manager that you report to, and you will be informed by the multidisciplinary team that you work with in areas of their technical speciality. The team includes an Industrial Automation Engineer, Mechanical Project Engineer, Mechanical Process Engineer, Business Systems Developer, and a Business Systems Analyst.

Team Dynamics: I am told that the team dynamics are quite complimentary, with people feeding and bouncing off each other well. This role will complete the puzzle so that projects can really be executed well here.

The Role
As the title suggests you will be focused on high level strategy relating to large capital projects with plant and equipment.

There will be a lot of number crunching, understanding where the business is now, production analysis, options analysis, and then selection of the desired outcomes and projects. You will do feasibility studies, risk analysis, and prepare detailed and well-informed business cases that you can then present to higher management and stakeholders. You will have a lot of high-level stakeholder conversations and engagement in this role.

There is a current 5-year projects plan with major projects to sink your teeth into from day one, and you will also be looking to identify future projects to improve the business.

High Level Strategy: This really is an exciting prospect for someone who likes high level strategy. You will also put in place the project management systems and processes for the projects that this team delivers going forward. More of the day-to-day project management is what the engineers in your team will do e.g. design, specification, procurement, liaison with contractors, and on the ground delivery.

Does this sound like you?

  • Project Management Experience ideally at the $10 million to $50 million dollar level
  • A technical background ideally in Mechanical Engineering but other backgrounds will also be considered
  • IT savvy, especially with using Excel and macros, an ability to manage data, analyse it, then put this into a professional business case.
  • Formal Project Management Certification like PMI, PMP, or PRINCE2 an advantage
  • Good with numbers and a highly analytical aptitude
  • Risk Analysis experience

Why Apply?

For a PM who likes strategy this is an exciting role. You can step out of the day-to-day and will get really involved in high level conversations, decisions, and project management.

Technically Interesting Environment: This role is also unique in terms of the type of plant you will be exposed to. You will work inside a large, heavy industrial, automated plant where advanced technology is embraced. This sort of environment is quite technically appealing to people from an engineering background.

Remuneration: You work will be well compensated for, with a truly competitive salary, Kiwisaver, insurances, plus a few other benefits which all add up. The company also help out of towners with relocation and temporary accommodation, so don’t let moving stop you from applying.

Location: The Hawkes Bay is a region that continues to grow, and not just grapes, but that too. My 20 degrees mid-winter holiday there certainly made me appreciate this sun-soaked coastal area, with its relaxed vibe, and relatively trafficless experience.
