Systems Optimisation Engineer

The Company
Our client located in the sunny Hawkes Bay is a large manufacturing company running a stable and successful operation. The company are known to be hardworking and a team approach is a must. This company has a focus on continuous improvement using high tech equipment to achieve efficiency gains.

The Role
This Systems Optimisation Engineer role is part of the Business Improvement Team for the Plant and is responsible for maintaining and improving the various product scanners, networking, and camera network within the plant. You will sit and work alongside a Business Systems Analyst, an Industrial Automation Engineer, Mechanical Engineers, and under a Business Improvement Team Manager.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Product Scanning Systems – including touch panels
  • Product Sorters/Graders
  • Plant Network
  • Camera Network
  • Project management of capital and major maintenance projects as required
  • Can program using Delphi
  • PostgreSQL database use – analysis and reporting
  • SharePoint
  • Business Intelligence software (Microsoft Power BI)
  • Provide cover for the Business Systems Analyst (as required)

Networking
You will need to already possess a strong understanding of how to run and operate a plant wide network that includes around 80 cameras in it, it is not a complicated network but you will need to have networking proficiency to be able to handle a plant wide network.

Databases
The company would also like to find some with database experience as they use PostgreSQL that would be preferred or any of the other similar families of databases.

Scanners: Laser & X-ray
As there are few and far between people who are experts at running and optimising multiple scanners throughout a production plant, this company of course desire this experience, but are willing to train someone who has the aptitudes in these other areas to become a scanner specialist too which represents a hug career opportunity for someone who may be interested in scanning technology and how it can be used to optimise plant productivity. The scanners have many functions throughout the plant i.e. directing product, aligning it, using algorithms to size raw product, sort, x-ray, grade, count, and finally barcode product so this is a complex and comprehensive scanning system.

Preventative Maintenance Planning
In addition to the operational and improvement focus of this role, you will need to ensure there are preventative maintenance practices in place including monthly calibration and operator calibration, and ultimately become the scanner expert for the site.

Project Management of Capital Projects
You will need to initiate, drive, and project manage capital improvement projects in the networking, camera network, scanner systems within the plant.

Hours
This is generally an 8 AM to 4:30 PM role with flexibility given on start and end times. You will be given a company phone and from time to time will need to be available for a call or call out, shared between you and one other Business Systems Analyst. Calls and callouts are typically infrequent.

Programming Languages
You will need knowledge and experience programming with IT languages. Delphi is currently used for their Business Metrics Collation System but if you have experience with a similar object-oriented language like C++ then please still apply as this will be transferable. The company use relational SQL databases so experience with PostgreSQL programming is ideal for reporting and metrics analysis a high proficiency with using Microsoft Excel and some proficiency with Visual Basic is preferred along with solid Networking experience.

Bachelor’s Degree in IT, Computer Science, Industrial Automation, or Electrical Engineering
