Territory Manager / Product Specialist

Our client is one of New Zealand’s largest laboratory and medical device suppliers. With a strong reputation for providing their customers with quality solutions, they have grown a significant market share within the research, clinical and industrial laboratory sectors.

About the Role
In this varied and newly role you will manage our client’s academic and research business across the South Island and Wellington / Palmerston North, with flexibility on territory depending on where you are based. You will be maintaining existing customer accounts (universities and CRIs) and growing their market share. The product specialist part of the role will allow you to become an expert on a group of products depending on your technical background.

This role is a general sales role, in that you will be representing our client’s products and suppliers. You will be the first line of contact with customers for information, prices, tech support and service – talking to a large range of people in different environments about a large range of products. As such, you need to be able to think on your feet and be reliable at following up.

Skills / Experience
You will be a sales or business development person with fantastic relationship management and communication skills and coming from a scientific background and ties to universities and research institutions. 

In addition, preferred candidates will have the following skills and attributes:

  • Tertiary qualification in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Microbiology, cell biology or similar
  • Sales experience
  • Laboratory experience is preferred
  • Entrepreneurial and commercial acumen; strong negotiation skills
  • Knowledge of the NZ Scientific Market and competition
  • Proven interpersonal and professional relationship building skills
  • Excellent communication, time management and organisational skills
  • Self-motivated and autonomous

You must be Covid vaccinated and available to travel for work. You’ll be required to stay away from home for 2-3 nights every 4-5 weeks in addition to other day travel.
