Health & Safety Adviser (Construction)

This specialist construction business has a prominent position in their chosen markets, they bring a fresh and collaborative approach to health and safety with a commitment to engage the right safety culture across all aspect of their business and project delivery partners.  

Due to organic growth we are seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator or Adviser seeking to further their knowledge and experience and join a complex construction site in the Waikato. You will be mentored by a Senior H&S Adviser and is a great opportunity for someone still developing their H&S career and keen to learn and be developed. 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Be a visible H&S coach and partner for the site team
  • Run effective site induction training and provide ongoing support 
  • Coach and develop site teams on best practice H&S performance and systems
  • Carry our risk assessments and implement appropriate management systems 
  • Provide training and information sessions to support the team and contractors as needed.
  • Carry out Health and Safety audits/inspections and ensure audit objectives are achieved
  • Assess contractors/sub-contractors performance and ensure compliance

This role suits someone who has related experience but still at an intermediate level in their career and looking to develop:

  • Around 3 to 5 years years experience working within Health & Safety in New Zealand
  • Experience working on large complex construction projects
  • Experience with working at heights, rigging and working in confined spaces.
  • Qualifications in New Zealand Health & Safety 
  • Practical trade based construction experience highly regarded
  • Excellent communication and relationship skills
  • Proven team player who enjoys collaboration

This role is a strategic hire and due to the nature of the remote location of these projects there will likely be travel invovled in your role, this business will consider applicants who live in main centres and happy to travel / FIFO to the project sites.
