Mechanical Project Engineer

Kayasand is changing the game in sustainable construction materials—designing and building fully automated crushing and screening plants that help reduce the environmental impact of concrete.
We’re looking for a Mechanical Project Engineer to join the team in Hamilton. This is a hands-on, varied role combining 2D drafting, procurement, and on-site project support across New Zealand and Australia.
What you’ll be doing:
- Drafting fabrication and assembly drawings using SolidWorks and 2D tools (DraftSight or AutoCAD)
- Creating bills of materials and managing procurement for new builds
- Entering and tracking parts data through MRP systems
- Checking components are arriving at customer sites and assisting contractors with installation
- Supporting commissioning activities—such as wear part inspection and conveyor adjustment
- Supporting maintenance operations on existing and new plant by creating process and getting hands on where required
- Maintaining visibility of spare parts at customer locations
- Collaborating across engineering, sales, automation, and project management teams
You’ll be based in our Hamilton office but will travel to customer sites across Australia 6–12 times per year, with typical trips lasting between 2-5 days (You’ll be home for the weekend).
What we’re looking for:
- Materials handling industry mechanical engineering experience (or similar technical field)
- Strong experience with SolidWorks and 2D drafting software
- Experience with BOMs, procurement, and supplier communication
- Hands-on capability and interest in mechanical systems
- Organised, collaborative, and driven to understand “why” things work the way they do
- Experience in quarrying, mining or heavy industrial environments is a bonus
