Heavy Diesel Mechanic
We’re looking for a skilled Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join a well-established company in the Horowhenua. This is role offers variety, you’ll be the go-to person for keeping loaders, forklifts, and mobile plant humming.
This is a hands-on, workshop-based role perfect for someone who wants variety, autonomy, and the chance to work with a tight-knit team that values getting stuck in and helping each other out. The Role
This is a sole-charge diesel role, supported by the workshop crew. You’ll be responsible for servicing and repairing a broad fleet of machinery, with a primary focus on mobile plant. This role is all about keeping site machinery equipment running smoothly.
You will:
- Maintain and repair a fleet including Volvo loaders (L60 to L120), Komatsu and Hitachi loaders, and Toyota/Oyster forklifts
- Perform pre-COF checks and minor repairs on Kenworth, Volvo, and Hino trucks (no requirements to perform the COF)
- Support general maintenance of light vehicles (e.g. Ford Rangers, Toyota trucks)
- Lend a hand to the site engineers with breakdowns and plant-related issues
- Use the PEAK system to log all maintenance and servicing records accurately

Ideal Experience
- Trade-qualified Heavy Diesel Mechanic with experience on loaders or similar equipment, and a minimum of 1 year post trade experience
- Comfortable diagnosing faults across hydraulics, electrics, and mechanical systems
- Background in forestry, transport, earthmoving, quarrying, or similar machinery
- Basic welding/fab skills a bonus, but not required
- Confident working independently and using digital systems for service logs
Pay & Hours
- Hourly rate: $35 – $40/hour (flat rate)
- Hours: Monday to Friday, 6:30am – 4:00pm
- On-call: None – no after-hours breakdown coverage required
