Production Team Lead

Slitting & Folding Team Lead – Sheetmetal | Roofing & Flashings

An established and growing manufacturing business within the roofing and building products sector is seeking an experienced Slitting & Folding Team Lead to take ownership of a key production area within flashings and roofing products.

This is a hands-on leadership role overseeing slitting, folding and recoiling operations, producing custom flashings and coil products to tight turnaround times. The role has been newly created to support growth, improve best practice, and increase throughput within a small but critical team.

The role
Reporting to the Production Manager, you will lead the day-shift slitting and folding team while remaining actively involved on the tools. The environment is fast-paced, reactive, and customer-driven, with a strong focus on quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading a small team focussed on slitting, folding and recoiling
  • Hands-on operation of CNC and manual folding equipment
  • Producing high-quality custom flashings from steel coil (galvanised, pre-painted)
  • Planning production to optimise efficiency, DIFOT, and material use
  • Driving improvements in workflow, output, and capacity
  • Supporting training, standards, and discipline within the team
  • Ensuring quality checks, tolerances, and customer specifications are met
  • Maintaining strong SOPs, and safety practices
  • Liaising with maintenance to ensure calibration and reliability of equipment

The environment

  • Modern, well-invested production facility
  • SWI duplex folding equipment and automated slitting systems
  • Small team (3–4 on days), with handover to a night-shift supervisor
  • Clean, organised site compared to many heavy manufacturing environments
  • Strong values-led culture with genuine investment in staff

What we’re looking for

  • Proven experience in roofing, flashings, roll forming, or sheet metal fabrication
  • Strong knowledge of slitting, folding, and ideally flashings production processes
  • Comfortable leading a small team while remaining hands-on
  • Able to introduce structure, best practice, and efficiency without disrupting culture
  • Calm under pressure in a reactive, quick-turnaround environment
  • Practical, direct communicator who earns respect on the floor
  • Experience with continuous improvement and SOP development preferred

Hours & remuneration

  • Day shift, flexible start time between 5:30 – 7am (45 hour week)
  • Approximate salary $75,000-$85,000 base, with flexibility for strong candidates
  • Additional company-wide profit share bonus scheme after qualifying period

Why consider this role?

  • A genuine opportunity to make your mark and lift performance
  • Be a big cog in a smaller, growing operation, not lost in a large hierarchy
  • Clear future growth opportunities as the business expands
  • Strong team culture, regular staff events, and flexibility
  • Long-term career potential for someone who wants more than “just running a machine”
