Automation Engineer (Intermediate or Senior)

The Company
Well-established Automation Systems Integration and Engineering company who specialise in delivering projects across a wide variety of sectors and system platforms in this technical niche.

The company have good work flow and need an Intermediate or Senior Automation Engineer to work in a permanent role with their well-known reputable clients.

The Role
This Automation Engineering role will be a mix of Project Management, Programming and Configuration of PLC, SCADA, and HMI, Electrical Design and Drawings (not essential), Procurement, Safety Projects, Installation Supervision, and Project Commissioning.

This is an Intermediate or Senior Automation Engineer role where you will surrounded by other Automation Engneers so this is a great place to work alongside likeminded and experienced colleagues.

There is a lot of local work and the company hire people with varying appetites to doing travel for commissioning trips and overtime. They are accommodating on these fronts so don’t let that stop you from applying and you could consider this as a viable, interesting, and potentially more diverse work alternative to working at a manufacturing plant, for a machinery building company, or a control systems product company.

This is a permanent fulltime role.

Work Environment: Your work could be done at a mix of places including: the office, at home some days a week, or on a client site. And a lot of the project work is fairly local.
Hours: Outside of the commissioning phase the standard hours are 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday and the company are happy with flexi-start times to suit your lifestyle or to dodge traffic.
Overtime + Site Allowances: Overtime is paid after 40 hours at your base rate (i.e. salary/52 weeks/40 hours). This really can add up if you choose to do significant overtime. Site allowances are also paid when you are workign away from home on a client site.

Ideally you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Likely you are tertiary qualified e.g. an Electrical Engineer, Mechatronics Engineer, Software Engineer (or similar) OR you have gained automation engineering experience on the job
  • Preferably worked for a systems integrator
  • Have a valid work visa and NZ work experience in Automation
  • Automation Project Management experience, including Safety and Commissioning
  • A Programmer with SCADA, PLC, and HMI experience. We are ideally seeking Ignition SCADA experience.
  • Ideally you have used at least three of the big four platforms: Siemens, Omron, Rockwell / Allen Bradley, Schneider Modicon
  • 5+ years’ experience in Automation within a relevant sector: i.e. Water, Food, Dairy, Pharmaceutical, Mechanical, Pulp & Paper, or FMCG environments

This is a rare role to find as an Automation Engineer in Tauranga especially with the low travel requirements too. The company is in a good space and growing overall and also locally here in Tauranga so this combined with the industry and platform variety make them a great company to join right now.
