Business Development Manager

Our client is a proudly NZ-owned business specialising in the sales, service and repair of medical and dental equipment. As they continue to expand their client base across the North Island, we are seeking 2x Business Development Managers to cover their greater Auckland and Wellington territories.

The Role
Reporting into the Managing Director, the Wellington position is a newly created role where you’ll be the face of the business.

You’ll have an open slate in developing new business opportunities and continuing to build on the company’s already excellent reputation.  Around 75% of your time is expected to be invested in business development and client relationship building with surgeons, nursing staff, and clinical teams across public and private hospitals, while the remaining 25% will manage existing and newly developed client sales requirements.

The roles involve frequent travel (mostly drivable distances) with a few overnight trips each month across the Wellington region, so enjoying travel is a MUST.
 
Success in the first 6-12 months will look like building a pipeline of appointments with surgeons and theatre staff, demonstrating product knowledge in demos and training sessions, and showing independence and self-management in the role.
 
Ideal Experience
Our client is seeking an experienced, self-managing, and opportunity-driven person.  You’ll need to have experience in identifying new business opportunities, making initial contact, and building and maintaining relationships with potential customers, ultimately resulting in new sales opportunities.  As such, you’ll be able to design and follow a robust business development plan, quickly develop your product range knowledge and convey this to the market. 

You will be a self-starter, target-driven, with a genuine interest in medical and surgical products and devices. Your interpersonal skills and engagement manner will be critical to your success in establishing yourself.

This role will suit a Technical Sales Rep / Medical Devices Salesperson / Territory Manager / BDM / or Account Manager who enjoys developing clients, is resilient when faced with “no”, and has no issues making cold calls.

You’ll bring:

  • A scientific or medical qualification or background (some level of physics a bonus)
  • Previous sales, account or business development experience within medical, surgical or laboratory product sales
  • Proven ability to identify, build and maintain new business development and sales opportunities
  • High customer service standards – strive to exceed your client’s expectations
  • Well-developed relationship and interpersonal management skills
  • A self-starter with resilience and a long-term plan mentality
  • Understands the requirement of time flexibility to be successful
  • Tech-savvy in demonstrating equipment and using admin software
  • Driver’s license and own vehicle (car allowance and fuel card provided)

With an office based in Auckland, the Wellington role will involve quarterly travel to Auckland for team sales meetings.
