Development Manager – cGMP

  • Senior technical leadership in pharma development
  • Own product development from concept to launch
  • High-impact role shaping development capability

Shape the Future of Pharmaceutical products:
An established and highly respected New Zealand–based organisation is entering an exciting new phase of growth and is significantly strengthening its product and process development capability across animal health, pharmaceutical and human health sectors. To support this strategy, we are seeking a Development Manager to oversee our client’s pipeline of new products through the development, scale up and product introduction into their manufacturing facility.  This is a critical position for the business and requires someone with proven experience in the successful commercialisation of pharmaceutical or medical device products.

Location:
This role is located in Hamilton, New Zealand.

The Opportunity:
This role will lead all product and process development but is certainly not limited to this stage.  With products needing to comply to regulatory and compliance requirements and to meet customer specifications, your role as the Development Manager will be to work collaboratively with all stakeholders while also supporting and mentoring your own team to meet the key timelines and objective of the development team. You’ll come from a similar GMP environment and have experience with PMO processes and also be familiar with the actions and frustrations of a production facility so that you can anticipate and resolve issues ahead of time. This role also has high visibility to the executive team so you will need to be able to articulate the progress and capabilities of your department to them in their language.

Key Responsibilities:
As a critical member of the Development and Operations team and of the overall PMO group, your main expected responsibilities will be to:

  • Provide scientific and technical leadership across pharmaceutical projects.
  • Actively manage and mentor your team to ensure their own engagement and successes
  • Lead and design process development scale up and technology transfer.
  • Work cross-functionally with key leadership stakeholders to ensure timely project completion
  • Contribute to product development from early concept through to commercial readiness.
  • Work effectively within a PMO-driven environment.
  • Communicate complex technical information in a relatable manner to senior stakeholders, including the CEO.
  • Positively influence collaboration, capability, and team culture.

About You:
As a preferred candidate, you will have or demonstrate:

  • Management level experience within the pharmaceutical or medical device industry
  • Strong technical background in pharmaceutical process development.
  • Demonstrated involvement in end-to-end product development.
  • Comfortable developing new solutions, methods, or processes — not just executing existing ones.
  • High emotional intelligence with strong communication skills.
  • Eligible to work in New Zealand.

Why Join:
You will play a foundational role in building senior capability and influence the direction and success of future pharmaceutical products.  On top of this, you’ll work in a growing organisation with strong board-level commitment to new innovation. This is your chance to make a visible, lasting impact on culture, capability, and commercial outcomes while enjoying the lifestyle that only a country like New Zealand can offer.
