Wellington Based – High Technology Product Design – Exciting leadership opportunity

Not readily known but have been a major part of the electronics sector in Wellington for many years, our client specialises in the research, development, design, testing and manufacture of high technical products for the defence industry.

With their head office in the UK, they have a worldwide footprint, strength of knowledge and strong distributor/customer relationships to provide world-class support and services to their clientele.
The company is entering a strong growth phase and are requiring a strong individual to lead and assist the Engineering, Research and Development teams with achieving their goals. Therefore, it’s an excellent time and great opportunity to join a company with an excellent team environment, where there will be collaborative support from across the wider business and parent company.

A true General Manager’s role, you will have a key input into the commercial growth, financial reporting and strategic development of the business, whilst maintaining an active involvement into the product development cycles and R&D focus, which has traditionally driven this business. You will be managing a small team of around 20+ staff across Engineering Design, Software, R&D and Technical Support.

To be suitable for this position, you will need some of the following attributes:

  • Experienced in General management / Business unit management from a similar industry involving Mechanical or Electronic product development and manufacturing
  • Strong supply chain knowledge and negotiation skills
  • Ability to achieve a security clearance to level SV (Secret Vetting). This requires us being able to track the last 10 years of your background
  • Business development and corporate skills, to meet confidently with boards, external clientele, contractors and consultants etc
  • Commercial focus – Experienced with financial reporting, marketing, sales, strategic planning
  • Business management principles and practises
  • Strong leadership qualities and people management skills (particularly experienced in leading professional engineering and development staff)
  • Technically astute with a strong understanding of how a high technology business such as this operates
  • Knowledge of quality systems, such as ISO etc.
  • Flexibility to travel internationally and locally (approx 3 trips per year)
  • Technically astute and preferably hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (Mechanical or Electronics desired but not critical)
