The Company is growing and seeking an experienced Industrial Electrician passionate about new challenges and delivering quality multi-million dollar plant solutions for difficult environments.
This New Zealand company designs and builds hi-tech plants in New Zealand and Australia.
Using proprietary technology, their goal is to enable sustainable building materials that reduce the environmental impact of construction. You will be part of improving existing R&D plants and productising them.
About You
This opportunity could suit you if you want to work for an OEM and do a mix of electrical design work like schematics design, component selection, and procurement, liaising with clients, suppliers, and contractors, plus some hands on assembly and maintenance of plants. There is a local R&D test plant for you to get hands-on with too.
You will be someone who enjoys problem solving, engineering design projects, building things, working with big machinery, and ok with some travel.
Local client and/or contract electricians will do most of the hands-on installation work, you will act more as the plant expert to advise on how things should be done.
This could suit an Industrial Electrician who wants to do less grunt work and move more off the tools to do design, coordinate resources, a job with more variety. Here you will get to do R&D for new plants, do product development and productization, and have that product owner mentality you don’t get when you are working on someone else’s plant or project.
Key Tasks
- Industrial Electrician/Designer – designing, assembling, and troubleshooting electrical designs.
- Standards compliance – ensuring compliance with relevant electrical and safety standards.
- Overseeing installation and commissioning – working with subcontractors and customers responsible for installation, testing installations and problem-solving during commissioning.
- Preparing system requirements specification – liaising with customers, suppliers and staff.
- Hands on –picking up tools and carrying out maintenance tasks.
Your Skills
- You are an EWRB Registered Electrician with practical industrial electrical experience.
- Experience designing to meet engineering standards. CAD experience is an advantage, and you will have a chance to learn this if you don’t use CAD already.
- Good organisation skills.
- Practical experience with electrical equipment, including wiring, installing, setting up and commissioning. E.g. switchgear, drives, motors, sensors etc.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.

Location: This is a permanent position based on the south side of Hamilton. The office is a collegial environment of early stage companies in areas such as 3D imaging and cell sorting.
