Industrial Maintenance Fitter
Heavy industrial | Remote mining operation | Pumps, dredges, conveyors, ship loading
This long-established mining operation has been running for more than 50 years, exporting a high-value mineral product used across global markets. With major investment underway – including new large-scale dredging and pumping infrastructure – the mechanical team is expanding. We are now looking for experienced Fitters who enjoy rugged, hands-on industrial work and want to be part of a small, collaborative team where their input genuinely makes a difference.
The Role
Working a 4 on / 4 off rotating shift, you’ll join a mechanical maintenance team supporting everything from onshore mining systems through to offshore ship-loading equipment. You’ll work closely with sparkies, operators, planners and reliability staff in a genuinely flat structure where everyone helps each other out.
Day-to-day, your work may include:
- Maintenance and repair across slurry pumps, large 600kW ship-loading pumps, dredge systems, shaker screens, conveyors, valves, mechanical seals, and hydraulic equipment
- Mechanical fault-finding and breakdown response across a large, remote site
- Alignment work, machining, light welding or fabrication to keep production moving
- Supporting port operations, dredge teams, township utilities, and anything else required (the variety is huge)
- Contributing to reliability improvement programmes, including condition monitoring, lubrication routes, data capture via tablets, and root cause analysis
- Working safely and cooperatively in an environment where teamwork is essential
This is a high-ownership role where people are trusted to solve problems, make decisions, and help engineer long-term reliability improvements – not just carry out reactive work.
What You’ll Bring
- Mechanical trade qualification (Fitter / Fitter Turner / Fitter Welder or similar)
- Background in heavy industrial, mining, aggregates, processing, marine, or similarly rugged environments
- Hands-on experience with pumps, rotating plant, conveyors, hydraulics, or machining
- A proactive, adaptable mindset – comfortable with dirty work when needed but also capable of precision alignments and fine tolerances
- Willingness to turn your hand to anything on a remote site with limited outside support
- Bonus skills: machining, condition monitoring, conveyors, dredges, or other specialist mechanical experience
What’s On Offer
- $150 – 160K for standard hours (average 42 hour week) + Overtime
- 4 on, 4 off shift pattern. 12 Hour shifts, nights approximately every 5 weeks.
- Scale & variety you won’t find in typical processing environments – dry mining, dredging, slurry pumping, spiral separation, offshore transfer systems
- Massive pumps and heavy engineering challenges
- Flat structure with real influence – mechanical staff contribute directly to improvement decisions
- Ongoing investment and career progression opportunities, including future planning, reliability and leadership pathways
- Single-person accommodation provided, with your own room and shared facilities
If you’re a capable and hands-on mechanical fitter who enjoys working with big kit, solving problems, and being part of a tight, collaborative team, this is an excellent opportunity.
