Machine Operator

The Opportunity
If you’ve got experience working around machinery, enjoy a hands-on role and know the importance of being a reliable team player, this could be a great opportunity to get your foot in the door with a well-established manufacturing business.

Our client is a global manufacturer of beverage cans, operating a large-scale, highly automated production facility in Wiri. With production volumes ramping up heading into the busy summer period, they’re looking for a Machine Operator to join their team.

This is a six-month contract to start, with the potential to transition into a permanent position depending on business requirements and individual performance. While previous can-making experience would be useful, it’s certainly not essential. They’re open to people from a range of backgrounds who have the right attitude, mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Operating production machinery in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Monitoring production processes to ensure products meet quality standards
  • Assisting with machine changeovers and production adjustments
  • Carrying out basic troubleshooting and resolving minor operational issues
  • Identifying and reporting equipment faults or production issues
  • Following health and safety procedures and maintaining a clean, organised work area
  • Working closely with your team to keep production running smoothly

You’ll initially receive training across different areas of the production line, with the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge as you gain experience.

What We’re Looking For
We’re more interested in finding the right person than ticking off a long list of qualifications. Ideally, you’ll bring some of the following:

  • Previous machine operating or manufacturing experience
  • Mechanical aptitude and an interest in how machinery works
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, production-driven environment
  • A strong work ethic and a reliable, dependable approach
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a close-knit team
  • A willingness to learn, take direction and get stuck in
  • Previous experience working rotating shifts would be an advantage

You don’t need a trade qualification or specific can-making experience for this role. Experience in other manufacturing environments, mechanical roles or similar hands-on positions could be just as relevant.

What’s On Offer?

  • $27.13 per hour starting rate on the initial contract
  • Potential permanent employment, with the entry-level permanent rate currently around $33.91 per hour
  • Regular overtime opportunities paid at double time
  • A 4 on, 4 off rotating shift pattern
  • Training across a range of production equipment and processes
  • The opportunity to build your experience with a large, established manufacturing operation

Please note: permanent employment and the associated pay rate are subject to business requirements, performance and the terms of the permanent employment offer. Applicable shift loadings may also be available.
