Maintenance Fitter
Maintenance Fitter – Southland – 4 on 4 off
Join the maintenance team at one of New Zealand’s largest processing sites, on a shift pattern that gives you genuine time off and a package that reflects the scale of the operation. This is a hands-on, plant-floor role – no workshop bench work, just real fault-finding and repair across a large, varied asset base.
Role Overview
You’ll be working as a Maintenance Fitter on a 4 on, 4 off shift pattern (2 days, 2 nights). This is a unique heavy industrial site in Southland, running an advanced condition monitoring and preventative maintenance approach alongside reactive and breakdown work. The role covers a broad mix of equipment: conveyors, cranes, ball mill, crushing plant, vibrating feeders, pneumatics and a sizeable fleet of air compressors.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Fault-finding and repair across conveyors, cranes, crushing and screening equipment, and ball mill systems
- Gearbox replacement and precision alignment work
- Hydraulics diagnosis and repair
- Maintaining pneumatic systems and air compressors
- Basic welding and fabrication as required
- Contributing to preventative and condition-based maintenance, alongside reactive breakdown work
- All work carried out on plant – limited workshop-based tasks
What We’re Looking For
- Trade qualified Fitter (or equivalent maintenance trade background)
- Genuine all-rounder – broad maintenance experience, not just fitting and welding
- Strong hydraulics and diagnostic skills
- Experience with gearbox removal, replacement and alignment
- Comfortable working across rotating and fixed plant (conveyors, cranes, crushers, feeders)
- Basic welding/fabrication ability
- Interest in condition monitoring / reliability work is a plus, not essential
- Able to work a 4 on, 4 off shift pattern (2 days, 2 nights)
Remuneration and Benefits
This role comes with a total salary package of $120-130K+ that makes it one of the stronger maintenance fitter opportunities available in the region:
- Base salary approximately $85-97,000 per annum
- Shift allowance of $21,400 per annum on top of base salary
- 5% bonus
- 10% employer superannuation contribution
- Two weeks annual leave loading (take two weeks in a block and receive an additional two weeks’ pay once a year)
- 15 days sick leave per year, cumulative annually with no cap
- Southern Cross health insurance
- $1,000 per annum phone allowance
- Company share matching scheme – after three years, shares purchased are matched one-for-one
- Free site transport via company bus service
- Relocation assistance available for the right candidate
