Maintenance Fitter

The Company and Role:
Our client is a leading manufacturer, with their production facilities based in Wellington and around the globe! Their Wellington based site is in need of a Maintenance Fitter that brings experience in busy manufacturing (GMP) environments, ideally within high-risk industries where meticulous documentation and record-keeping is of utmost importance.

With a hands-on and practical approach, you will be responsible for keeping a range of production machinery in peak condition, ensuring equipment reliability, availability, and reactivity whilst upholding engineering, safety, hygiene, EHS and GMP compliance.

Tasks will also include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintenance Work: Perform corrective, preventative, and routine maintenance on plant machinery to optimise uptime and reliability. In emergencies, identify faults and troubleshoot to rapid resolution.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Maintain and regularly review preventative maintenance (PM) schedules. Log all work accurately in the Maintenance & Calibration system to inform ongoing improvements.
  • Continuous Improvement: Help refine SOPs and PM plans. Identify productivity enhancements, propose improvements, assist in machinery upgrades, and support lean initiatives.
  • Compliance & Systems: Operate under SOPs and permit systems (PTW). Adhere to OH&S, Hygiene, and GMP standards. Serve as Authorized Permit Owner/Controller when required.
  • Training & Support: Coach packaging and production staff on machine operation, setup, cleaning, and safe use. Clarify operational procedures and coordinate changeovers.
  • Contractor Coordination: Welcome, supervise, and support external contractors. Ensure compliance with site induction, safety protocols, and maintenance standards.
  • Site Maintenance & Flexibility: Provide general building upkeep and housekeeping support. Able to work overtime, weekends‑on, shift rosters, and call‑out duties as needed

You, the Candidate:
Ideally, the successful candidate will be an adept problem solver, possess high levels of organisation and self-motivation, as well as bringing experience working in a high-risk GMP environment (e.g. meat processing, pharmaceutical manufacture, nutraceuticals, or dairy processing).

You will also have the following skills and attributes:

  • NZ Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent trade qualification (e.g. Fitter & Turner, Mechanical Maintenance and Diagnostics)
  • Basic electrical disconnect / reconnect license
  • At least 4 years’ experience in a hands-on maintenance role, within a busy production (GMP regulated) environment 
  • Pneumatics qualification
  • Confined space training
  • Relevant machinery factory training and knowledge of mechanical systems
  • Good understanding of automated systems and computer literacy
  • Ability to read documented instructions and fill out critical paperwork
