Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

The Company
This large and successful food manufacturer in Christchurch have an in-house Engineering and Maintenance team which supports their Christchurch based plant.
This company has a real focus on working to a robust ‘best practice’ engineering and maintenance strategy. This will include a focus and company backing on things like asset care, reliability, preventative maintenance, continuous improvement, and keeping the plant running as optimally as possible.

Responsibilities
You will report to the Engineering and Maintenance.
On the mechanical front you will support the daily engineering operational requirements of the plant machinery, as well as emergency (e.g., breakdowns) and preventative maintenance activities.

Hours
You’ll work an average of 40-hours between Monday and Friday on the following shift pattern. While Saturday work is not scheduled, occasional Saturday work will be required and will be paid at double the hourly rate.
4-5 weeks working 6.30am-3.30pm. 1 week 2:30 PM to 11pm. 1 week 10:30 AM to 7 PM.

About You
Relevant Machinery Experience: Fault-finding and troubleshooting experience on this sort of equipment would be valuable e.g., Conveyors, Multivac Thermoformers, multi-head weighers, check weighers, metal detectors, packaging and packing equipment (flow wrappers, taping machines, case packers, & palletisers etc).
Ideally, you will be a dual-trade engineer with an electrical registration, or interest in training and registration through the company.

Must-have experience

  • A formal mechanical trade qualification (advanced trade desirable).
  • 5+ years mechanical maintenance experience.
  • Strong Preventative Maintenance & Reliability mindset.
  • Plant Background: at least 1 year in an FMCG high-volume processing plant e.g., Food, dairy, Pharma, or other high quality and hygiene environment.
  • Previous installation & maintenance experience of industrial mechanical equipment and components.
  • Ability to understand engineering drawings and manuals.
  • Practical understanding of documentation requirements.
  • Strong trouble shooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Attitude: a go the extra mile attitude is more important than advanced technical proficiency.
  • Ability to work and think under pressure while remaining calm and composed and resolve the issue or keep machinery limping along until a proper fix can be implemented.
