Quality Assurance Supervisor (QHSE)

The Company: Our client, a rapidly expanding dairy manufacturer situated in the heart of the South Island, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Quality Assurance (QHSE) Supervisor. As the business grows, they are looking for someone to enhance their quality assurance culture and maintain high standards across their growing operations.

The Role:
As a hands-on QA Supervisor, you will play a crucial role in upholding and improving the quality assurance practices within the factory. Your responsibilities will include ensuring compliance with GMP, food production quality principles, and various regulatory requirements. You will coordinate and actively participate in internal and external audits, liaise with contractors, act as the QA lead for site based projects, and manage the change control process for the site + much more. This role requires a proactive individual with excellent time management skills and a passion for working in a dynamic environment with opportunities for professional growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor daily QA activities, including GMP and HACCP compliance
  • Conduct sensory analysis of products
  • Review and update quality system documentation
  • Communicate with suppliers to obtain necessary documents
  • Perform internal audits in line with Standard Operating Procedures
  • Ensure adherence to the Health and Safety at Work Act 2005
  • Oversee environmental monitoring
  • Manage QA-related administrative tasks
  • Coordinate product samples for release and retention
  • Ensure all food safety and quality systems meet regulatory and company standards
  • Oversee product release and issue Certificates of Analysis
  • Participate in and coordinate internal and external audits
  • Address QA issues promptly, including non-conformance reports and customer complaints
  • Maintain and review quality systems such as HACCP plans, GMP audits, traceability exercises, approved vendor programs, pest control, and cleaning programs
  • Execute product change controls as required

To Be Successful, You Will Need:

  • A background in quality assurance and food technology
  • 3-5 years of experience in the food industry, preferably in dairy or export animal products manufacturing
  • Strong knowledge of food quality standards and regulations (BRC, HACCP, Halal, Organic, Woolworths SEP, Animal Products Act 1999)
  • Familiarity with MPI Official Assurance Programme, including OMAR and GREX
  • Experience with MPI eCert system
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage priorities effectively
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills
  • A solid work ethic and team-oriented approach
  • Formal HACCP and auditing qualifications
  • Tertiary qualifications in Food Technology, Food Science, or Microbiology are essential
