Quality Control Technician (Afternoon Shift)

  • Free on-site parking

  • Excellent overtime rates

The Company: Whittaker’s is New Zealand’s biggest chocolate manufacturer and has been voted New Zealand’s ‘Most Trusted Brand’ for thirteen years running. They live by the belief that ‘best is always better’, insisting on using only the finest ingredients, the best methods, most precise machinery, and employing the best people to keep making good honest chocolate.

Whittaker’s are currently searching for an experienced and capable Quality Control Technician to join their tight knit, and self-sufficient afternoon shift team based in Porirua, Wellington.

The Role: Playing a critical part in ensuring the factory continues to deliver high-quality chocolate to customers, this role will cover but is not limited to the following tasks:

  • Performing routine quality checks of the products, equipment, labels, packaging, batch code details and more to ensure everything is accurate, functional, and of high-quality.
  • Conducting daily audits and line GMP walks
  • Maintaining accurate and complete records
  • Collecting retention samples
  • Inspecting the condition of finished goods before they leave the factory
  • Alerting QA of any issues and non-compliant processes or products

The afternoon shift works from 4.00pm through to 2.00am Tuesday to Friday. It may be a late finish, but let’s look at the positives; it is not a full night-shift. You’ll be working similar hours to that of hospitality and/or warehousing, but you have an additional perk to look forward to…

Enjoy a 3-day long weekend from Saturday – Monday, allowing you time to catch up with your family and friends. Whittaker’s understands the importance of their employees having a good work-life balance. Need I say more?

You, the Candidate: Without a manager on shift, the afternoon shift team requires a strong problem solver, critical thinker, and experienced QC Technician that has the confidence to step up when required. This role is all about attention to detail, being capable of managing your own tasks and time, building rapport with the wider factory team, and meticulously following company procedures and policies.

The ideal candidate will also bring:

  • A tertiary science qualification (Food science, Food technology or similar)
  • At least 1 years’ experience working in a GMP food manufacturing facility with knowledge of relevant food safety standards
  • Prior experience in a Quality Control position is highly preferred but not essential
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal
  • Ability to problem solve and think on your feet
  • A disciplined and diligent approach to work
  • The desire to grow and develop your career within the company

Apply: Whittaker’s has been named New Zealand’s most trusted brand for a reason; the team is motivated, the environment is warm and inclusive, and they endeavour to develop and upskill their valued staff who work to continue providing delicious, high-quality chocolate.
