Senior Automation Engineer

– Christchurch based Senior Automation Engineer role
– Career Path into Engineering Management
– Help setup and grow an Automation Office & Team

The Company

This is a well-established Automation Systems Integration and Engineering company who specialise in delivering projects across a wide variety of sectors and system platforms in this technical niche.

The company are stable, have strong work flow, and there is general growth in the automation sector.

The Opportunity

With this growth they are wanting to expand and setup an office in Christchurch.

They have existing clients and new work locally there and could also share overflow work from their other offices too if needed initially, so work flow will not be an issue for you.

Well Supported & Setup: With a capable Engineering Manager, Operations Manager, Directors, and BD Managers in their other offices, you will be well supported at start up and have other engineers in these offices to help on projects if needed too. You won’t need to worry about doing quoting or accounts either.

Step 1 is hiring you if you are a capable Senior Automation Engineer who can work independently on control systems projects for the company.

The company also do electrical engineering, machine safety, and digitisation/Industry 4.0 type work and cover a wide range of control systems and client industry sectors. If work variety is of interest, then they have that covered!

Step 2 in your career development here is the opportunity for you to move slowly into Engineering Management, a rare but sought-after role. The idea is that this office would initially grow to circa 3 to 5 engineers in the next 1 to 2 years, and in time it could be 7 to 10 staff.

You will likely still work on projects too, so this will be a nice of technical engineering and management.

But don’t switch off if Engineering Management is not what you want. If you are a capable Senior Automation Engineer, the company will look at hiring you for this job and simply hire someone later on that does want the Engineering Manager hat.

The Senior Automation Engineer Role

The Senior Automation Engineer will be a mix of Project Management, Programming and Configuration of SCADA, PLC, and HMI, Electrical Design and Drawings, Procurement, Safety Projects, Installation Supervision, and Project Commissioning.

Healthy Remuneration: A healthy and competitive base salary will be offered, plus a vehicle, and overtime.

Overtime + Site Allowances:
Overtime is paid after 40 hours at your base rate (i.e., salary/52 weeks/40 hours). This really can add up if you choose to do significant overtime. Site allowances are also paid when you are away on site.

Work Environment:
Your work could be done from a mix of places including: the office, at home some days a week, or on a client site.

Hours:
Outside of the commissioning phase the standard hours are 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday and the Company are happy with flexi-start times to suit your lifestyle or to dodge traffic.

Does this sound like you?

  • Likely you are tertiary qualified e.g., an Electrical Engineer, Mechatronics Engineer, Software Engineer (or similar)
  • You have 10 + years’ automation engineering experience
  • Automation Engineering/Control Systems Integration within a relevant sector: e.g., Food, Dairy, Water, Pharmaceutical, materials handling, machine building OEM, or general manufacturing environments
  • Automation Project Engineering experience, including Safety and Commissioning
  • You are a Control Systems Programmer with PLC, SCADA, and HMI experience

Why Apply?

This Senior Automation Engineer role will give you interesting industrial control systems projects to work on and not just controls but also the other areas the company works in too, electrical engineering, machine safety, and digitisation.

You will be part of building a new company office yet supported by two other company offices so pretty much like as a remote Senior Automation Engineer to start with, and with the career growth pathway into Engineering Management if desired.

You will work with like-minded technical specialists, and in a company that wants to remain at the edge of what it is possible to automate and optimise.

You will get very good variety in terms of the industry sectors and clients you will work across, the types of projects you will do, plus the wide range of control systems you can work on.

I have enjoyed working with the managers there over a few years now and find them to be an approachable, reasonable, and down to earth employer who will treat you fairly, and seek to help you grow & develop.

You will be paid current industry rates, and the addition of overtime after 40 hours, and site allowances means you will truly be paid for what you do.
