The Company:
This consultancy specialises in power system design and has long-standing relationships with generation companies, utilities, and large-scale energy users. With strong technical depth in Auckland and an expanding Tauranga office, they offer a flexible, people-focused culture and a stable pipeline of work — without the heavy BD pressure of larger firms. Projects span feasibility, detailed design, commissioning, and ongoing client support, covering both greenfield and brownfield generation and distribution networks.

The Role:
As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you’ll take technical ownership of HV/LV network design, protection, and power system studies — helping deliver safe, reliable energy systems to clients across New Zealand. You’ll report to a senior engineering manager and collaborate closely with a capable local team while linking into national specialists for additional support where needed.

Your role will involve:

  • Designing and delivering HV and LV power systems for generation and distribution networks
  • Leading power system studies — load flow, protection coordination, short-circuit analysis
  • Performing earthing design, cable sizing, and protection setting calculations
  • Preparing schematics, IO schedules, loop diagrams, and technical specifications
  • Using industry-standard design tools such as ETAP, DigSILENT PowerFactory, and CYMCAP (preferred)
  • Providing practical technical input during design, construction, and commissioning phases
  • Supporting project management and maintaining strong client relationships
  • Occasional site visits — typically day trips, averaging no more than once per week

About You:
We’re looking for a technically strong, proactive engineer with a passion for power systems, who enjoys problem-solving and delivering high-value design solutions.

You’ll bring:

  • BE or NZCE (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering
  • Significant experience in HV/LV design for power distribution or generation networks
  • Proven knowledge of medium-voltage systems, protection, and earthing practices
  • Familiarity with power system analysis tools (ETAP, DigSILENT, CYMCAP preferred)
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including technical reporting
  • A collaborative, client-focused mindset and confidence in technical decision-making
  • NZ working rights and a good understanding of local codes and standards
