Technical Advisor
The Client: Our client is an NZ owned and operated company that imports and distributes quality brands of lubricants and related products for industrial and marine use across the country. With a diverse portfolio range, exclusively imported products, and exceptional services to create bespoke products for their customers unique needs, our client is needing a Technical Advisor to support the development of existing and new lubricant products.
The Role: Reporting into the Senior Technical Manager and General Manager, the Technical Advisor will be supporting product development and improvement, whilst analysing customer needs and recommending solutions to any product issues.
Tasks will include but are not limited to:
- UOM (Used Oil Monitoring) Management – Oversight of the UOM programme, troubleshooting issues, and training users.
- Product Surveys – Conduct lubricant surveys to match products to applications and analyse competitors / product crossover.
- Quality Control – Perform white oil QC checks on incoming batches, and conduct bacteria/PH testing for coolants.
- Technical support – Assist the sales team and customers with technical enquiries and maintain product selection tools.
- Documentation – Maintain and create safety data sheets (SDS) and technical data sheets (TDS)
- Organisation – Coordinate blending activities with external laboratories, maintain MPI renewals and creation, and reporting heat transfer results to customers.
As the successful candidate continues to grow into this role, they will gradually develop into taking over the Senior Technical Manager’s responsibilities, such as: Product development, formulation changes and costing, liaison with stakeholders, ensuring method/product development and validation adheres to SOPs and WIs, visiting customer sites for product issues/investigations, conducting lube surveys, sales support and more.
This is a Monday-Friday role, working 8.00am to 5.00pm and will require overnight trips a few times a year to visit various customer sites across NZ.
You, the Candidate: With this role being inline to taking on the Senior Technical Manager role over the next 12-18 months, our client is in need of an analytical expert with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Confidence in problem solving, recommending innovative alternatives, and experimenting with new ideas will be critical to this role.
The ideal candidate will also possess the following skills and attributes:
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Science – Tribology related studies would be highly regarded
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience across a combination of chemical laboratory analysis, product development, and heavy engineering (or marine) industry related roles
- Experience with product development in lubricating oils or similar, is highly preferred
- Knowledge and understanding of concepts and constraints of finished product development
- Technical understanding of process development
- Familiarity with various regulatory requirements for different customers
- Knowledge of the capabilities in internally manufactured product and offshore blending
