This established engineering and construction business has decades of success working in the Construction, Civil and Mining sectors across Papua New Guinea, they are recruiting an experienced Workshop Manager to lead their steel fabrication operation. Reporting to a locally based General Manager and joining a diverse workforce from New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, and Papua New Guinea there is huge scope to improve productivity and success of this operation.

The Role
You will be managing a busy workshop, leading a diverse  workforce, and taking ownership of business performance, client relationships, people and production.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing key client relationships, and identifying new opportunities 
  • Oversee production planning and workshop performance
  • Supporting estimating, materials management and procurement
  • Maintaining strong safety and quality standards
  • Leading and developing the capability of the local workforce
  • Developing the divisions business plan and provide monthly management reporting 
  • Identifying production efficiencies and improvements. 

You will lead a team of around 40 people, with Project Managers, Estimators, and Leading Hands reporting directly to you. 

About You
We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Management experience of a heavy engineering / fabrication workshop
  • Engineering qualifications preferred
  • Proven ability to manage people, production and commercial outcomes
  • Good knowledge of business and financial management advantageous
  • Experienced in training and developing 
  • Ability in developing client relationships
  • Comfortable living and working in a developing country.
