Project Coordinator – Technical Programmes

CarbonScape is a New Zealand–based deep-tech start-up developing advanced carbon materials for lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles and energy storage systems globally. Working with international battery manufacturers and technology partners, CarbonScape is scaling a novel, patented process from pilot through to commercial deployment in a lean, high-accountability environment.
 
Strong partnerships with Tier 1 global battery companies are driving the need for increased delivery discipline and coordination across CarbonScape’s technical programmes. As these programmes grow in scale and complexity, this Project Coordinator role has been created to improve delivery clarity, coordination, and follow-through across multiple concurrent technical workstreams, supporting clear customer engagement and reliable programme execution.
 
The job.
As Project Coordinator you will play a central role in coordinating the execution of CarbonScape’s core technology development programmes, ensuring clear delivery visibility, strong follow-through, and effective engagement with internal teams and external partners.
 
In particular, you will:

  • Maintain a single, trusted view of programme status, tracking actions, decisions, risks, and dependencies to ensure alignment between intent and execution.
  • Prepare and run decision-focused meetings, with clear agendas, pre-reads, and concise documentation capturing decisions, actions, and risks.
  • Proactively identify and track risks, dependencies, and resource constraints, surfacing issues early with context and clear escalation where required.
  • Coordinate across technical teams, operations, leadership, and external partners to maintain clear communication, alignment, and current documentation.
  • Ensure HSWE considerations are embedded in planning and reviews, and make people, workload, and capacity risks visible to support safe, sustainable delivery.

The person.
As our Project Coordinator you will have:

  • Proven experience coordinating complex, multi-disciplinary technical programmes or projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and improve practical business processes and communication workflows in technical or project-driven environments.
  • Confidence using and adapting digital tools and workflows to improve visibility, follow-through, and delivery perform toance.
  • Clear, confident written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with international technical teams and customers.
  • A strong sense of integrity and professionalism, particularly when handling confidential and IP-sensitive information
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving start-up environment, exercising sound judgement and initiative under ambiguity

This role involves working with international partners, providing exposure to global programmes. Occasional work outside standard New Zealand business hours will be required.
