Controls Engineer – Industrial Automation

Location:
Hastings, Hawkes Bay, (Office and On-site)

Benefits:
$45 – $67 per hour ($93k to $140k annually) + OT @ 1.5 hourly rate + Vehicle (work use & commute) + Laptop & Phone + Future possibility of Company Shares + Tool Account

Company Intro:

Join a reputable electrical contracting and engineering company with a dedicated business unit focused on Controls and Electrical engineering services.
As part of their growth strategy, they are actively seeking experienced Controls Engineers to join their team.

The Role:

As an experienced Controls Engineer, you will already be happy working independently on control systems engineering projects and service work for clients, both in the office and on site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain electrical control systems to meet project requirements.
  • Code robust and serviceable PLC programs (primarily Ladder Logic) to ensure reliable and safe functionality.
  • Develop and maintain SCADA/HMI systems.
  • Perform fault diagnosis and troubleshoot electrical control systems to identify and resolve issues promptly.
  • Provide customer consultation on control system design and implementation.
  • Collaborate with the project team during installation and commissioning to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems.
  • Mentor less experienced team members, providing guidance and support as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Electrical or Controls Engineering or a related field.
  • 3 years’ + experience as an Industrial Controls Engineer
  • Proficiency in PLC programming, with experience in Rockwell or Siemens preferred.
  • Experience with industrial networks architecture

Nice to Have Experience (not required)

  • SQL database operations
  • EPLAN and AutoCAD 2D for electrical design.
  • Ignition SCADA and Python
  • Motion Control systems
  • Machine Safety Experience or willingness to upskill (e.g., CMSE course).
  • EWRB E or EE registration and/or Engineering NZ membership
  • Robotics Servicing
