The Role
This role sits within the R&D Team involved in engineering design of new heavy machinery products and making upgrades to existing products.

You will report to a Lead Electrical & Controls Engineer and have another Electrical Engineer colleague too. There will be many other people your work will tie in with there too.

You will be primarily doing electrical designs and developing control systems for their new products but also upgrading the controls of existing products too. These aree currently PLC controlled hydraulics systems with relays. For example, you will be developing control systems programs for mobile controllers on hydraulically controlled heavy machinery, and also on new electric battery run machinery that is in development.

So, you will mainly be programming within CODESYS with IEC 61131 PLC languages (especially Structured Text, FBD, and Ladder Logic) to program reliable safety critical control systems. You will create virtual models of the controls on the machinery to allow repeatable testing for any future program upgrades or changes, and to help with testing, fault-finding, and bug fixes. You will also use QML to design the machinery interfaces (HMI’s).

Hours: This is a 40-hour week role.

Does this sound like you?

  • Degree qualified e.g., in Mechatronics, Industrial Automation & Robotics, Software, Computer Systems, or Electrical Engineering
  • 3 + years’ experience at least, but ideally more
  • PLC Programming experience with Structured Text and FBD
  • Experience using CAD for electrical schematics, panel layouts, and documentation (the company use EPLAN, but training in this can be provided)
  • Designing safety critical control systems

Nice to Have Experience

  • Object oriented programming experience
  • Wireless communication protocols
  • CAN and J1939
  • V-Cycle development strategy for product development
  • Familiarity with test automation and requirements-based testing
  • UX Designer experience programming with QT language
  • Power BI & Advanced Excel
  • Experience with sensors like: pressure transducers, thermocouples, inclinometers, speed sensors
