Industrial Electrician

This site turns New Zealand-grown logs into sawn and dressed timber for both domestic and export customers. It’s a sizeable, modern operation based in Rolleston, and the company keeps reinvesting in its machinery and processing capability as the business grows. Electrics sit right at the heart of it all – when the power, controls or automation play up, everything else stops, which is exactly why this role matters.

THE ROLE
You’ll take ownership of the electrical side of the operation – power distribution, control systems, and automation – across both the sawmill and the processing shed. The focus is on keeping things running and getting ahead of problems before they cause downtime.
Day to day, expect to be:

  • Maintaining and installing electrical power and control equipment
  • Responding to electrical breakdowns to get production moving again quickly
  • Helping shape and run the site’s Preventative Maintenance Programme
  • Fault finding across PLCs and other control/automation systems
  • Leading installation and project work, and liaising with suppliers and contractors to hit deadlines
  • Keeping electrical stock and consumables purchased and on hand
  • Working alongside the Engineering Manager, fellow Engineers, and Department Managers

It’s a straightforward Monday to Friday, 7.30am to 5pm day-shift role. There may be the odd opportunity to pick up an after-hours callout if you’re keen, but it’s optional, not expected.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING
This role would suit a hands-on Electrician who’s just as comfortable troubleshooting a fault as they are running a small project. Ideally you’ll have:

  • A current New Zealand electrical practising licence
  • Solid experience maintaining electrical systems in a manufacturing, timber, or heavy industrial setting
  • Sharp fault-finding skills under pressure
  • Exposure to PLCs and industrial automation/control systems
  • Confidence managing contractors and suppliers on project work
  • A genuine commitment to safety and a willingness to muck in as part of the team

Background in sawmilling or timber processing is a bonus, but electricians from other heavy manufacturing environments will be seriously considered too.

ON OFFER

  • Hourly rate depending on your experience (around $50/h)
  • A predictable Monday to Friday day shift – your weekends stay yours
  • Job security with an established and expanding South Island manufacturer
  • A modern site backed by ongoing investment in plant and equipment
  • A good mix of maintenance work and project variety
  • A close-knit, supportive engineering team

If you’re an Industrial Electrician after steady hours, interesting work, and a business that’s investing in its future, this Rolleston role is worth a closer look.
