Machinist
We’re recruiting 2x Manual Machinists to join a well-established heavy engineering workshop based in Central Bay of Plenty, known for its large-scale industrial projects, complex rebuilds, and precision refurbishments across pulp & paper, hydro, and heavy industries.
You’ll work on large machine tools, including horizontal borers, horizontal & vertical CNC lathes, mills and more, handling everything from one-off component rebuilds to full shutdown support. The focus is precision, pride, and practical know-how, not production-line speed.
These roles are being added due to increased workload and ongoing demand. Expect strong hourly rates, consistent overtime (if you want it), and a workplace that genuinely looks after its people.
The Role
Standard hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday (40 hours), with overtime available based on project needs. The role is primarily workshop-based, with occasional site work for shutdowns depending on your skillset.
You will:
- Undertake manual machining and operate and programme CNC machines (Fanuc, Heidenhain, Siemens, Fagor controls)
- Set up large, heavy jobs, more than just vices and clamps
- Machine a variety of metals and plastics across custom jobs
- Use overhead cranes, rigging gear, and precision measuring equipment safely
Ideal Experience
We’re looking for Manual Machinists with experience in large scale heavy industrial work, you’ll have worked hands on in heavy plants, be comfortable setting up jobs from scratch and with rigging and crane work.
- Trade qualified & proven experience in manual and CNC machining
- Strong understanding of tolerances, machine setup, heavy components, and interpreting technical drawings
- Adaptable and open personality, happy to shift between machines and projects
- Flexible in terms of hours, as they run various shifts dependant on the job
