Maintenance Technician (Electrical)
WHY THIS ROLE?
This is a modern, highly automated site backed by a long-standing Kiwi brand that’s been running and investing in its plant for decades. The PLCs, HMIs, and control systems here aren’t an afterthought, and neither is the roster: a proper day/night rotation that gives you real time off, not just time away from work. If you’re after a role built on solid ground rather than shifting sand, here’s what it actually involves.
KEEP PRODUCTION HUMMING
Being the dedicated Electrician on shift, you’ll be the hero when PLCs don’t play along, motors stop turning, and E-stops “magically” press themselves. Fortunately, the majority of shifts will be on preventative maintenance – checking electrical systems and control systems (SCADA and HMIs) are operating correctly.
This 24/7 plant runs the popular 2-2-3 shift rotation, equally sharing day and night shifts across the maintenance team, with an equal number of days off – a true lifestyler’s role. Shifts are 12 hours:
Day shift: 06:00 – 18:00
Night shift: 18:00 – 06:00
You’ll use MEX, the team’s CMMS, to keep activity visible and shared with the wider maintenance team.
GOT THE RIGHT SKILLS?
We need a team player with a proven background in food production and packaging. Sound like you?
- Full EWRB Electrical registration
- Strong faultfinding ability
- Familiar with Allen Bradley / Rockwell PLCs
- Experience with HMI and SCADA systems
- Willing to assist with mechanical tasks as required
- Clean, tidy work habits
- Current and unrestricted NZ working rights
WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?
The base salary for a qualified and experienced Electrician is around $120-130k. Add overtime rates plus annual tool, advanced trade, Boiler Operator, PLC programming, and long service allowances, and you could be looking at another $10-20k+ a year, bringing total rem to $130k–$150k. You’ll also get extra annual leave to sweeten the deal further.
