Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

The company:
Our client is an established New Zealand business with a modern automated processing in Hastings where their focus is processing of apples into various product types for the local and export market.
 
The vacancy:
We are currently supporting our client in the search for an experienced maintenance engineer for their Hastings facility.  Reporting to the Maintenance Coordinator, the role is responsible for ensuring equipment operating availability and improvements are made to equipment performance where possible. This role is a significant contributor to plant performance and efficiency by ensuring production downtime is kept to a minimum.   
 
Qualifications and experience required:
To be considered for this position you must have a relevant trade qualification as a maintenance engineer, fitter, turner, or similar plus a minimum of 2 years maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment. You will have the ability to work as part of a team but also in isolation. You will be able to diagnose equipment failure and perform timely repairs as well as undertaking routine planned maintenance.  Ideally you will have at least a year working in the food processing industry and be aware of quality and regulatory implications when working on equipment processing foods for human consumption.
 
Ideally our clients are looking for someone with:
 

  • Trade qualification in either Mechanical Engineering or Fitting and Turning
  • At least 2 years experience in an engineering maintenance role preferably within the Food or Dairy industry
  • Strong fault finding/problem solving experience
  • MIG and TIG welding skills
  • Developed communication skills, someone who can communicate with team members and customers alike

Our client will assist you with your training needs to ensure you are able to confidently work on the factory equipment.
 
This is a 40 hour a week role working 8 hours a day during off season. During the processing season you may be required to work 40 hours across seven days a week, including working up to 12 hours a day.  Pay for this position will be between $38-45/hr depending upon your experience.
