Operational Maintenance Technician
About the Role
We’re recruiting Shift Fitters / Operational Maintenance Technicians to support a growing maintenance team across process, utilities, and packaging operations on an 18-month fixed-term contract.
The site is transitioning toward continuous operation, so the role will involve a mix of preventative, reactive, and improvement maintenance within a high-speed, highly automated manufacturing environment. You’ll work alongside experienced operators, engineers, and technicians to keep equipment running safely, efficiently, and in line with GMP and dairy industry standards.
Initially, you’ll work day shift while completing training and onboarding, before transitioning to a 4 on / 4 off roster (12-hour shifts, days and nights) as the plant moves to full 24/7 production.
Key Responsibilities
- Preventative and reactive maintenance across process, utility, and packaging equipment
• Fault finding and repair on automated production machinery
• Maintenance of fluid handling systems, evaporators, dryers, powder handling, and packaging assets
• Support plant utilities including steam, refrigeration, compressed air, and water systems
• Identify and implement reliability and continuous improvement opportunities
• Record all maintenance activities through the CMMS for compliance and traceability
• Maintain strict food safety, hygiene, and health & safety standards
• Work closely with production and engineering teams during shifts and planned shutdowns
Skills & Experience
- Trade-qualified Maintenance Fitter, Maintenance Engineer, or dual-trade background
• Proven experience within high-speed manufacturing environments (essential)
• Experience in dairy, food, or beverage manufacturing highly regarded
• Comfortable working with PLC / SCADA-driven production systems
• Strong mechanical capability across pumps, valves, conveyors, gearboxes, and pneumatics
• Structured, methodical fault-finding approach under pressure
• Willingness to work rotating day and night shifts in a 24/7 environment
• Strong commitment to quality, safety, and GMP standards
