Project Engineer (Electrical)

The Company
Located in the sunny Hawkes Bay, this company is a well-established large manufacturer.

People within the company are valued and developed and I have personally heard good feedback from people I have placed there, including from people within this team.

You can also readily see their focus on sustainability, continuous improvement, and using high tech equipment to achieve efficiency gains.

The Role
As an Electrical Project Engineer, you will be the project management lead on a variety of capital and maintenance projects (45% of the role).

As an electrical subject matter expert, you will take the technical lead for the electrical part of projects (45%). If you are a Controls Engineer who has managed electrical projects and has at least an interest in functional safety, please get in touch too.

The remaining 10% of your role will be as a subject matter expert for functional safety projects. So, we need someone who has awareness of what functional safety is, but the Company will also put you through TUV Functional Safety courses 0, 1, and 2, via NHP so you will be properly upskilled to do your job.

You will be involved in projects from start to finish, liaising with a range of internal and external project stakeholders.

You will have one other Electrical Engineer colleague who you will work with closely. You will join a team of 6 engineers plus your manager, so 7 in total.

A typical project process here will include budget preparation, scope of works, detailed project plans, feasibility studies, business case and financial modelling, and working to achieve project objectives. You will also do the day to day project management including design, specification, procurement, liaison with contractors, and on the ground delivery.

About You
Ideally, you have experience in heavy industrial or from another manufacturing site.

Other Experience needed

  • Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree or relevant diploma, NZCE qualification or appropriate experience
  • 5 years’ project engineering experience as a minimum
  • Knowledge of what Functional Safety is. Training will be given.

Nice to have experience

  • Formal Project Management Certification like PMI, PMP, or PRINCE2 an advantage
  • Risk Analysis experience

Why Apply?
This is an exciting role for someone who likes Project Engineering in a manufacturing environment and who will be happy to contribute as an SME in the electrical and functional safety technical areas. It’s a good mix of strategic plus day to day project engineering, a well-rounded job that will grow you as a PE/PM and upskill your functional safety knowledge.

Technically Interesting Environment: This role is also unique in terms of the type of plant you will be exposed to. You will work inside a large automated plant where advanced technology is embraced. This sort of environment is quite technically appealing to many engineers.

Remuneration: You work will be well compensated for, with a truly competitive salary, Kiwisaver, Life and Medical Insurances, plus a few other benefits which all add up. The Company also help out of towners significantly with budgeted relocation AND temporary accommodation policies. So don’t let moving stop you from applying.

Location: the Hawkes Bay is a region that continues to grow, and not just grapes, but that too. My 20 degrees mid-winter holidays there certainly made me appreciate this sun-soaked coastal area, with its relaxed vibe, and relatively trafficless experience.
