Due to the growth of the business, Whittaker’s are looking for a Technical Training Consultant to join the team  for 6 months on a fixed-term or contract basis.  
 
The Role:
This newly created opportunity will see the incumbent developing, implementing, and coordinating training programs for the wider factory team. The initial focus will be understanding, updating and simplifying current SOPs and work instructions, which will require working closely with Operators, Technical Writer, Trainers, Shift Managers and more. Attention will then be turned to developing training programs/plans suitable for different learning styles, training the factory operators and upskilling and developing current trainers.  Fostering a positive and safe learning environment for the Whittaker’s team is paramount, so your ability to relate to a wide range of people needs to be a strength.

Tasks will include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct a gap analysis to assess where training needs exist
  • Develop and implement training programs/matrix for current and new employees
  • Edit current SOPs and develop new SOPs with the Technical Writer and Trainers
  • Identify training needs and develop plans accordingly
  • Schedule, coordinate and lead training sessions as the primary trainer
  • Demonstrate a variety teaching methods to support various learning styles
  • Evaluate current training programs and make necessary adjustments
  • Maintain training records for all employees
  • Develop a visual management tool

 
You, the Candidate:
As someone who enjoys working with people from all walks of life and is capable of managing various projects and deadlines, the ideal candidate for this role will have outstanding communication skills and understand how to translate technical information into simplified training materials and programs. Building relationships and engaging the wider Factory Team will be critical to this role.

The ideal candidate will also possess the following skills and attributes:

  • 5+ years’ experience in technical training and development
  • Previous experience in developing and delivering technical training programmes
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of learning styles and the appropriate teaching methods
  • Experience developing new SOPs and maintaining current SOPs
  • Previous experience using learning management systems (LMS)
  • Experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment (highly preferred)

Due to the nature of the environment, the position is based on-site at the Whittaker’s factory in Porirua. Face to face interactions and a hands-on approach to understanding processes and procedures is essential to the success of this position. There is some flexibility with days and hours of work, so these will be mutually agreed with the successful candidate.
