Project Engineer

The Company
Our client is a well-known quality food processor and exporter based in Hastings.  With their modern facility processing locally grown food product and supplying to New Zealand and international markets, this global business is a well renowned and stable employer in the region with strong financial backing.
 
The Opportunity
With continued investment in their site, our client is seeking a site Project Engineer. Reporting to the Head of Engineering and Maintenance for ANZ, this position is responsible for the planning, execution, and completion of capital improvement project for the Hastings site. This includes the development of project scopes, budgets, schedules, and risk assessments.  This is a critical interdepartmental role which means working collaboratively with the site leadership team and their respective departments to ensure that projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
 
Requirements
With this role overseeing capital projects for the site, a relevant engineering qualification and several years of previous project engineering/management experience are prerequisites for this position.   You will have prior Capex planning and management and a proven record of meeting projects on time and within budget.  You’ll also have an encouraging communication style, and be able to positively motivate key stakeholders to meet the project objectives even if they are not direct reports.  In a company that strives for continuous improvement, ideally you will have some knowledge of lean manufacturing, TPM, 6 Sigma or similar.

As this is a newly created role, there is flexibility in the level of experience and this role will be tailored to the skills and experience of the successful candidate. We welcome applications from junior through to senior Project Engineers provided they an engineering degree, project engineering, and Capex experience.
 
Ideally our clients are looking for someone with:

  • Bachelor of engineering in mechanical, electrical, mechatronics or similar
  • Experience with capital projects ideally in an FMCG environment
  • Proven ability to oversee capital projects through to a successful outcome
  • Active communicator, able to positively influence across the hierarchy
  • A self-starter, able to maintain high intensity through a project
  • Computer literate, especially with MS Project and CAS software
  • Contractor management experience

PLEASE NOTE: This role is based in Hastings – you MUST be prepared to relocate to this location in order to take up this position.
