Considering immigrating to New Zealand?
On the 4th of July 2022, New Zealand’s doors will be opening, allowing migrants to apply for the Accredited Employee Work Visa (AEWV), New Zealand latest work visa. This Visa is designed to streamline the immigration process and create a pathway for residency for immigrants who want to live and work in New Zealand. This visa is employer led and to apply for the AEWV you must first have a job offer from an accredited New Zealand employer.
What this means for you
There are three steps that need to be undertaken before an AEWV can be offered to a migrant. Only one of these steps involves your active participation.
The first two steps (employer accreditation and the job check) don’t involve you. The accreditation process is about the employer proving to Immigration New Zealand that they are profitable and have no history of immigratory misconduct. The job check is about ensuring the job being offered pays the market rate and complies with Immigration New Zealand’s policies.
The Migrant Check
This step does involve you. Migrants can apply for advertised opportunities online but will only be considered after the job check has been completed. After the job check has been passed, the employer can offer you a job and Immigration New Zealand will perform a migrant check. Migrant checks will happen after the AEWV becomes available on the 4th of July 2022 and can take up to twenty (20) working days.
Immigration New Zealand will check you fit their requirements regarding your
- Health
- Character
- Skills
- Experience
After the employer has gone through their due process (interviewing and reference checking) and offered you a job, they must
- Provide you with a copy of the employment agreement
- Provide you with a copy of the signed employment offer
Note: It is illegal for any employer to charge you for any of the accreditation, job check or recruitment fees. This does not include airfare costs or visa application fees. More information on the costs you will be charged by Immigration New Zealand can be found below, currency is New Zealand Dollars (NZD).
- Application for AEWV – $540
- Immigration levy paid by worker – $55
- Reconsideration of a declined AEWV application – $220
- Variation of conditions – $190
