Demand for our Recruitment Services on the rise

, , ,

These last few months at Technical Recruitment Solutions have been some of our best yet. We’ve been pairing more candidates with new opportunities, delivering better results for even more clients, and we’ve been hiring internally to support our successful year. There’s been a clear increase in demand for our services, so lets have a look at what we’ve been doing and look at some statistics surrounding recruitment trends and the NZ Job Seeker climate.

So, what’s new with us?

We’re glad you asked. It’s been a hectic few months for us here at Technical Recruitment Solutions, but that’s just the way we like it. On average, we’ve hired a new staff member internally every month for the last 3 months which is a direct response to the increase in demand for our services. Our teams being as busy as ever is a credit to their reputations within the NZ technical recruitment industry.  To ensure that we’re consistently delivering the best results possible to our candidates and clients, we’ve hired two new consultants in this week alone. Scott Finlay, originally hailing from Dublin, joins our Manufacturing & Trades team. Olivia Lawrence, a recent graduate with a staggering triple major degree, joins our Food & Dairy/Scientific & Pharmaceutical teams.

Furthermore, to accommodate our new consultants, we’ve had to get creative with our desk arrangement to ensure that we weren’t too cramped in the office! Rest assured that no one really lost out in the process though – check out the awesome 3-seater desk that the girls in the Food & Dairy team got (the surface heights are adjustable so they can stand if they want to)!

We’re so pleased that the team is growing. It’s a testament to the hard work that every consultant puts in, and their willingness to go the extra mile for their candidates and clients. It’s not just new consultants that are signifying growth for us this year, it’s also the growth we’re seeing in our existing team members. Consultants like Darren Chan of our Manufacturing & Trades team are celebrating their 2-year anniversary with Technical Recruitment Solutions this month. We’re also anticipating that at least a couple of our supporting consultants move up into fully fledged recruitment consultant positions by the end of the year.

Our Civil & Construction team also recently made the time to get out of the office and celebrate a fantastic year so far by doing some good ol’ clay pigeon shooting. Here’s a rare snap of Conor and Adam when they’re not on the phone talking to clients or sending out CVs!

Recent Changes in the Job Seeker Climate

There’s certainly been an uptick in demand for our services this year. We have to credit much of that to the hard work of the team, although there’s also been some interesting shifts in the job market as well.

Statistics NZ recently posted a quarterly stats update for the labour market which details some incremental changes in the workforce of this country. Interesting points worth noting are the underutilisation rate increasing in the last quarter. This rate signifies the number of people in the country who are unemployed, underemployed (working but not necessarily in a full-time permanent role) and in the potential labour force (looking for work).  This means that there is a slowly increasing number of people, both currently employed and not, that would like to step into more permanent full-time roles – which, of course, we recruit for. We can also see that the labour force participation rate has been on the rise this year – meaning that there’s an increase in individuals seeking new jobs.

There were also some insights and predictions made on Seek earlier in the year that proved to be true for us as well. Seek posited that the energy and manufacturing industries, both of which we specialise in, would do well in 2018 based on a short term historical increase in job ads and average salaries. They also suggested that construction would be the ‘strongest’ industry for growth in 2018, with a high demand for construction positions nationwide. These are all predictions that turned out to be bang-on for us, with our Manufacturing & Trades, Industrial & Energy, and Civil & Construction teams all having a fantastic first 3 quarters. We can only hope that their success continues as the year draws to a close!
